Fullerton Community Center Offers Tax Assistance Program
FULLERTON, Calif. (Jan. 4, 2017) –– The Fullerton Community Center will host a tax assistance program for low and moderate-income senior citizens on Thursdays, beginning February 2, 2017.
Volunteers trained by the Internal Revenue Service will be at the Center from 12-3 p.m. on Thursday up until April 13, 2017. The tax assistance program is sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons, the IRS, and the State Franchise Tax Board.
Seniors wishing to take advantage of the service must schedule appointments by calling the center at (714) 738-6305. To prepare for their appointments, seniors should bring their Social Security cards and copies of their previous year's federal and state tax returns.
It is important to note a new software program is now in place and in an effort to reestablish identifying data, last year’s tax return documents are essential. Taxpayers should also bring the current year’s tax forms, including W-2s, 1099s, SSA-1099s, and other relevant materials reflecting income and expenses for the year.
For members of Covered California Health Care, Form 1095A or Exemption Certificate will need to be provided. Additionally, homeowners planning to itemize deductions must provide relevant property tax statements provided by the county.
The Fullerton Community Center is located at 340 W. Commonwealth Ave. Persons requiring special accommodations are asked to notify the center staff when making their appointments.
