Community Center Offers “A Matter of Balance” Program
The Fullerton Community Center will host, “A Matter of Balance,” a free, eight-week award-winning program beginning on Wednesday, October 26. The program is designed to manage the risk of falls. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable; set realistic goals to increase activity; change their environment to reduce fall risk factors; and exercise to increase strength and balance. The program will be held once a week on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
California statistics reveal more than one million falls a year for the age group of adults 65 and over. Furthermore, following a fall, people often develop a fear of falling and reduce their activity levels, leading to further loss of muscle strength and increased fall risk.
“A Matter of Balance” is sponsored by the North Orange County Community College District School of Continuing Education LEAP Program. Each session builds on the previous one and it is required that participants plan to attend the complete eight-week series.
There is no cost for the program, but registration is required. Please call the Fullerton Community Center at (714) 738-6305 for more information and to register.
The Fullerton Community Center is located at 340 W. Commonwealth Avenue. Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the class are asked to notify the center staff prior to October 26.
