The Equipment Maintenance Division oversees the upkeep of nearly 400 City vehicles—including fire trucks, street sweepers, pickups, and sedans—through preventive maintenance, safety inspections, repairs, modifications, and compliance with the State-mandated Biennial Inspection of Terminals (BIT) program. The division also services other essential City equipment, such as emergency generators.
The division ensures compliance with environmental regulations, including the Clean Truck Check - Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) Program, which requires periodic emissions testing and maintenance for heavy-duty vehicles, and the Off-Road Diesel (ORD) regulation, which mandates reporting to the California Air Resources Board. The division uses DOORS (Diesel Off-Road Online Reporting System), an online tool for reporting off-road diesel vehicle inventories and tracking actions taken to reduce emissions.
In addition, the division manages the City’s Equipment Replacement Program through the Vehicle Replacement Fund, overseeing the full lifecycle of designated equipment from acquisition to disposal.
Fuel purchasing and the maintenance of six fuel sites also fall under this division, including the public-accessible "EcoFuel" Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station at 1600 W. Commonwealth, Fullerton, which operates 24/7.
