How to Dispose Sharps Safely & Legally
Step 1- Put used sharps in a puncture proof, plastic container. This does not include standard, plastic beverage containers.
When the container is 3/4 full, put the lid on, seal it with duct tape, and label DO NOT RECYCLE. Do not throw the container in the trash.
Step 2- Use the Zip Code search, found here, to locate container disposal options near you.
Step 3- Never throw used sharps- loose or in a plastic container- into the trash or toilet and never recycle.
| In California, it is illegal to place containers of used sharps (needles, syringes, lancets, auto injectors, infusion sets, connection needles) to household trash. |
