Home MenuGang Unit
The Fullerton Police Department’s Gang Unit is comprised of experienced Detectives dedicated to preventing and suppressing gang activity throughout the city of Fullerton. The Gang Unit has developed a departmental gang strategy that incorporates a multi-dimensional approach using the interactive components of:
- Suppression
- Enforcement
- Prevention
- Intervention
SUPPRESSION/ENFORCEMENT
The Gang Detail fills its suppression and enforcement role with a combination of high-visibility uniformed patrol, and plainclothes surveillance. The gang detail also works collaboratively with gang units from other agencies.
PREVENTION/INTERVENTION
The Gang Unit concept is a collaborative effort utilizing the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the Orange County Probation Department, surrounding agencies and community involvement. These collaborative efforts include participation with the Orange County Gang Reduction Intervention Program, partnering with probation officers to ensure compliance, attending community events and speaking on gang prevention and intervention.
HISTORY OF THE FULLERTON GANG UNIT
In 1996, The Fullerton Police Department was selected for a multi-agency "TARGET" team known as the Tri-Agency Resource Gang Enforcement Team. The purpose of the TARGET team is to supervise subjects who have been identified as some of the most serious gang offenders in the Cities of Buena Park and Fullerton. The assigned Deputy District Attorney reviews all new cases filed against "TARGET" offenders and ensures that they receive the maximum attention of the Criminal Justice System. The Fullerton Gang Unit applies these same tactics today to combat gang activity and crime in the communities adversely affected by criminal street gangs.
