Disaster Supplies Checklist

Essential supplies for your home and family.

Developed using guidance from the American Red Cross and FEMA. Household needs vary; use this as a guide to assemble the kit that works best for your family.

* Evacuation Ready: Items marked with an asterisk (*) should be kept in an easy-to-carry container (like a backpack or duffle bag) in case you need to leave your home quickly.

Water & Food

  • Water: 1 gallon per person/day (3-day supply minimum)*
  • Non-perishables: Ready-to-eat meats, fruits, and veggies*
  • Canned juices & high-energy foods
  • Manual can opener & utility knife*
  • Vitamins & comfort/stress foods

First Aid & Medical

  • Assorted bandages & sterile dressings*
  • Germicidal wipes / Hand sanitizer*
  • Medical grade non-latex gloves*
  • Antibacterial ointment & Tweezers
  • Pain relievers & Antacids
  • Prescriptions: Heart, BP, or Insulin*

Tools & Supplies

  • Battery-operated radio & extra batteries*
  • Flashlight & extra batteries*
  • Whistle & signal flare
  • Shut-off wrench (for gas and water)
  • Matches in waterproof container
  • Cash or traveler's checks*

Sanitation & Hygiene

  • Toilet paper & towelettes*
  • Soap & liquid detergent*
  • Feminine & personal hygiene items*
  • Plastic garbage bags & ties
  • Household chlorine bleach
  • Plastic bucket with tight lid

Clothing & Bedding

  • Complete change of clothes/footwear*
  • Sturdy shoes or work boots*
  • Rain gear, hat, and gloves*
  • Blankets or sleeping bags*
  • Thermal underwear & Sunglasses

Important Documents

Store in a waterproof, portable container:

  • Wills, insurance, deeds, and bonds
  • Passports & Social Security cards
  • Immunization & family records
  • Bank & credit card account numbers
  • Inventory of valuable goods

Special Requirements

For Baby: Formula, diapers, bottles, and medications.*

For Seniors/Disabled: Denture needs, contact lenses, extra eye glasses, and specialized medications.*
