Safely Surrendered Baby Law

A Safe Alternative for New Parents

The Safely Surrendered Baby Law allows anyone with legal custody to surrender a newborn (up to 72 hours old) to any hospital emergency room or fire station without fear of arrest or prosecution for abandonment.

Authorized Sites

  • Fullerton Fire Stations: All six city fire stations are authorized participants. Look for the blue and white "Safe Surrender" sign.
  • Hospitals: Any hospital emergency room within the city or county.
  • Availability: Authorized sites are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Confidentiality

  • Anonymity: The surrender process is strictly confidential.
  • No Identification: No names or background checks are required to surrender the infant.
  • Placement: The infant will receive immediate medical care and be placed in a safe, permanent home.

Optional Medical History

Parents are offered an optional medical questionnaire (Form SOC 861) to collect history critical to the health of the infant. This information is kept confidential, and all identifying details are removed to protect your privacy.
