Training the Next Generation of Fire Service Professionals

Introduction to the Fire Service

The Fullerton Fire Cadet Program provides young adults ages 14-24 with a rewarding starting point in the fire service. Under the direct supervision of professional Fullerton Firefighters, participants learn essential skills through hands-on technical drills and fire station life.

Cadets come to the program from different starting points. Some join in high school for a first look at the profession to build discipline and teamwork alongside working firefighters. Others arrive after graduation or military service, ready to prepare for the fire academy, EMT certification, or a role as a Fullerton Ambulance Operator.

Eligible Cadets may earn the opportunity to participate in the department’s Ride-Along Program. This allows Cadets to witness field operations first-hand as supervised observers during actual emergency calls.

Requirements

  • Age: 14-24 (under 18 requires parental consent).
  • Education: Current High School student or Graduate with 2.0+ GPA.
  • Attendance: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Wednesdays of the month (regular attendance is required).
  • Residency: Must live within 40 miles of the City of Fullerton.

Recruitment is ongoing, though orientation space is limited to 20 candidates per session.
