The Fox Block Development

Introduction  

At the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Chapman Avenue, in the heart of Downtown Fullerton, sits the iconic Fox Theatre.  For over 60-years the Fox Theatre served as a cultural and entertainment hub for north Orange County before finally closing in 1987.  The City has partnered with the Fullerton Historic Theatre Foundation to restore the theater and once again open it to the public.   

The Project 

To expand on the renovation of the Fox Theater, the City is has partnered with Pelican Communities to develop a plan for the development of several city-owned properties to the north and west of the Fox Theatre property (see map below).

  • November 5, 2015 - RFQ Submissions Due
  • December 2015 - City Staff / Stakeholders review of submissions
  • March 2016 - Follow-up Interviews 
  • June 2016 - Recommendation to City Council
  • June 2016 - Execute Exclusive Negotiating Agreement with Pelican Communities
  • August 2016 - Kick-off meeting with adjacent property owners and businesses
  • November 2016 - Meeting with nearby residents 
  • December 2016 - Meeting with Fullerton High School
  • February 2017 - Meeting with Community / Interested parties
  • June 13, 2017 - Meeting with Fox Theatre Foundation
  • August 29, 2017 - Joint City Council / Planning Commission Study Session to review draft Development Plan
  • December 5, 2017 - Formal direction to pursue Alternative 2 provided by the City Council
  • March 19, 2018 - Presentation to Neighborhood United For Fullerton (NUFF) at the Fox Theatre (Presentation)
