Photovoltaic Permits

Photovoltaic Permits

Streamlined Solar Permitting

California has become the first state in the country to mandate a standardized procedure for solar permitting. On September 15, 2015, the Fullerton City Council adopted a simplified procedure for certain types of residential solar systems. A streamlined permitting process greatly benefits homeowners with shorter wait times between contract signing, installation, inspection, and saving on their first month’s electricity bill.

Starting October 1, 2015, applicants may begin to use the process outlined below to obtain permits for solar installations.

This new streamlined process begins by first determining the type of solar installation you are interested in (photovoltaic, solar water heater, solar pool heater). The next steps are:

  1. Select the eligibility checklist for that system (listed below)
  2. If your project meets the eligibility requirements for streamlined permitting (based on the checklist), download the corresponding submittal criteria and standard plans (below)
  3. Fill out the applicable applications based on your project type
  4. E-mail the completed and signed documents along with any supporting information to: eplans@ci.fullerton.ca.us
  5. You will receive an e-mail confirmation of the receipt of your documents
  6. Once the City's review of the applications is complete, you will be notified by the City when your permits are ready
  7. Come to City Hall to pay for and pick up your solar permits

Disclaimer - It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the required documents have been received by the City.
