APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes of April 18, 2001 were APPROVED as written.
Committee Role and Responsibilities
Due to the concern at the April 18, 2001 meeting about the purpose the Energy and Resource Management Committee (ERMC) serves, Chairman Hardwick brought to the attention of the committee, Resolution No. 8837 identifying the purpose, role and responsibilities of the ERMC. A copy of the resolution was included in the agenda packet.
Chairman Hardwick expressed his interest for the committee to make a recommendation to City Council on Energy Conservation. In his opinion, the only recommendation the Committee could make at this time is to have the street light timers re-programmed to turn on and off at later times such as 9 PM to 5 AM, and to avoid peak hours. This led to a brief discussion about public safety issues. Committee member Burtner made a suggestion for a long-term solution in replacing the lead wires. After additional conversation on technological advances in the electric industry, the committee resolved that there is a need for an update on the Long-Term Options identified by Maintenance Services Director Bob Savage in his January memo to the city manager. Associate Planner Viado made an additional suggestion to seek recommendations from each department supervisor and indicated they would be invited to future meetings for this purpose.
Committee members Hoover and Murphy indicated they had information regarding additional activities to be included in the city's Used Oil Recycling Program and indicated their desire to place this item at a future meeting.
Warren Bowen, a volunteer writer with the Fullerton Observer, expressed an interest in this committee due to an article he is writing on the Waste Management/Recycling Program. He expressed an interest in visiting the Recycling Facilities to bring a positive perspective to this program. Chairman Hardwick referred Mr. Bowen to make arrangements with staff for further information and a possible tour of the Materials Recovery Facility.
COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS:
The committee expressed a desire for "user-friendly" and up-to-date brochures from the city.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be July 18, 2001.
