|  |  | November 13, 2012 On August 21, 2012 Michael Gennaco, president of the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review, presented a comprehensive audit of the Fullerton Police Department (FPD) to the Fullerton City Council. Part of the final report included 59 recommendations to help improve the policies, procedures and practices within the FPD. Attached is the Chief’s response to those recommendations including policy changes, training, leadership, and examples of the changes that have been made since the report was published. (

August 21, 2012After completing a preliminary report in February, and concluding numerous internal affairs investigations, Michael Gennaco, president of the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review, presented the Fullerton City Council with his final report tonight detailing his internal audit of the Fullerton Police Department (FPD). The comprehensive audit included a review of all FPD policies and procedures, as well as numerous confidential interviews conducted in order to obtain insight as to the workings of the department. (

May 25, 2012On May 15th, Dan Hughes, the Acting Chief of Police, advised the City Attorney that he had reviewed the internal affairs investigation conducted by Michael Gennaco and had reached his findings. As previously stated, personnel decisions affecting peace officers are confidential pursuant to California Penal Code section 832.7. May 22, 2012May 1 Statement: Michael Gennaco of the Office of Independent Review has completed his investigation of the July 5, 2011, incident involving Kelly Thomas. The investigation has been submitted to, and reviewed by Acting Chief of Police Dan Hughes. May 9, 2012The City of Fullerton understands today’s ruling by Superior Court Judge Walter Schwarm to compel a jury trial of two Fullerton police officers accused in the death of Kelly Thomas. According to Fullerton Mayor Sharon Quirk-Silva, "This has been traumatic for our entire City; however, we need to come together and let the judicial system unfold. The trial is the proper forum for the facts in this case to be presented, vetted and decided." More...
May 7, 2012Today the Orange County Superior Court will hold the preliminary hearing in the Kelly Thomas case. A previously unreleased police surveillance video will be presented as evidence in court. It may be released to the public by the judge. More...
