Police Chief Michael Sellers
Michael F. Sellers was appointed Chief of the Fullerton Police Department in May 2009. 
Chief Sellers, a California native, began his career in law enforcement in 1976 when he joined the La Palma Police Department. He left La Palma in 1995 for a Captain’s position with the Los Alamitos Police Department. In 1997, he was made Chief of the Seal Beach Police Department. He accepted the post of Laguna Beach Chief of police in 2005. An advocate of community-oriented policing, Chief Sellers’ approach to law enforcement places an emphasis on working with the community to solve problems. . “I have always told my Officers that we have three jobs,” he said. “Our first step is to save lives. When lives are not at stake, our next job is to protect life. When that’s not an issue, our job is to help improve the quality of life for our citizens, and that is done through community-oriented policing.” Among his accomplishments at Laguna Beach, Chief Sellers successfully expanded community policing services, as well as developed and implemented a Community Outreach Program to better serve all sectors of the community. Chief Sellers holds master’s degrees in administration from both California State Polytechnic University and USC. He is also a graduate of the FBI’s National Academy, the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Course, and the California Command College. On his own time, he teaches classes in ethics, leadership and community-oriented policing at Fullerton College, and graduate and undergraduate management courses with a primary focus on public service agencies at California State University, Long Beach. Chief Sellers and his wife, Rita, live in San Clemente. They have four sons, one daughter and six granddaughters. |
