Paramedic Subscription Program

Since July 1983, the City of Fullerton has charged a per call fee for paramedic services. This fee applies to residents and nonresidents alike, and the amount of the fee depends on the type of service rendered. An ALS (Advance Life Support) charge is currently $500 and a BLS (Basic Life Support) charge is $250.

As a Fullerton resident or Business Owner/Manager, you have an alternative to these per call fees. You can take advantage of a special Paramedic Subscription Program that provides paramedic coverage at a very moderate annual cost. The subscription cost for one year (July 1 through June 30) is as follows:

Residents:$42 per year
Business Owners/Managers: $42 per year for every 10 employees or portion thereof.

If you enroll after June 30, there is a $10 late fee and you will only be covered for the remainder of that subscription year.

The subscription cost for residents covers you, and all members of your household, for paramedic services. For businesses, the fee provides paramedic services to you and your employees during business hours only.

Please be aware that the Fullerton Paramedic Subscription Program fee does not include ambulance costs. These fees are billed separately by the ambulance company. The Fire Department provides medical treatment to the patient and does not have an ambulance for transportation; a separate company provides that service.

The Program is only available to Fullerton residents and/or business owners and their employees and the fee is non-refundable.

If I decide not to join the Paramedic Subscription Program, what is the per call fee?
$250 for Basic Life Support and $500 for Advanced Life Support.

What is the current annual subscription premium?
$42 per household. You are covered anywhere within the city limits.

Are visitors in my home covered?
No. Only permanent residents of the household are covered.

What is the coverage period?
July 1 through June 30 of the following year. We do not prorate the fee.

If I miss the enrollment deadline, may I still join?
Yes. There is an additional $10 processing charge.

Can I join the program after using your services and have the per call fee waived?
No. You must pay the per call fee. You may then join the program.

Will my insurance cover the per call fee?
Insurance coverage varies. You need to check with your insurance company.

Will you bill my insurance company if I use your services?
No. The patient will need to file a claim with their insurance company.

If I have Medicare/Medi-Cal coverage am I covered?
No. Our services are not a benefit of their coverage plans.

If I join the program and move to another part of the city am I still covered?
Yes. You must notify the Fullerton Fire Department of your new address.

If I join the program and then move from Fullerton will my fee by refunded?
No. The fee is non-refundable.

Does the subscription fee include the cost of the ambulance?
No. A separate company provides that service.
