CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Bicycle Users Subcommittee was called to order at 5:30 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The Minutes of the March 15, 2006 meeting were approved..
1.DISCUSS REVISIONS TO THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM F.Y. 2006-07
A copy of the revised CIP was provided to the members for review and comment.Staff indicated that no new bike projects were added. The existing budgeted Valencia Bike Route is schedule to be installed soon.No comments by the members
2.DISCUSS CLOSED TRAIL ON EUCLID
Staff stated that the closure was caused by private property sliding onto the trail. The property owners have been notified to remove the debris from the trail.
3.DISCUSS CITYWIDE BIKE EVENT
A discussion was had among members about a possible citywide bike event related to transportation.A ride similar to the one in Costa Mesa was mentioned, but it was noted that the Costa Mesa event was a critical mass ride not sponsored by the City, and that a critical mass ride is not what the members were looking for.Other items included something similar to the “bike to work day”.Staff responded that the City promoted a bike to work to day along with the Orange County Transportation Authority and the participation was minimal. An off-road event was mentioned, and it was requested that the Parks & Recreation Department be contacted to obtain input and support.
4.DISCUSS EXISTING AND PROPOSED BIKE ROUTES
A new bike map showing bike routes that have been installed and proposed bike route designation was provided to the members to review.
Puente Bike route was discussed and construction funding has been approved for fiscal year 2008-09.Preliminary design would begin next year. The property owner at the northwest corner of the project asked questions about the project and staff responded.
The regular meeting of the Bicycle Users Subcommittee was adjourned to the next regularly scheduled meeting of June 21, 2006.
