Street Repair Program
For pothole problems, please contact our Maintenance Services Department at 714-738-6897. The City usually contracts out three to four arterial street rehabilitation projects in each fiscal year and two to three phases of the residential street rehabilitation projects. Notices of impending work are distributed to affected residents and business owners approximately three months in advance for arterial streets and two days in advance for residential streets. The City maintains a 5 year street rehabilitation plan for paving and reconstructing arterial streets. The plan is generated with the aid of a sophisticated Pavement Management System developed by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The street repair policy contains the basic criteria for developing the plan and includes the following: - Street condition
- Type of repair required
- Cost effectiveness
- Amount and type of traffic
- Bus or bicycle route
- Coordination with other City programs, e.g., sanitary sewer or storm drain construction
RESIDENTIAL STREET RECONSTRUCTION (SCHEDULED FOR CONSTRUCTION) - IN DESIGN- Street selection in progress (Maintenance District 2) - Summer 2008
Note: All streets may not be constructed due to funding limitations. The current program for maintenance of residential streets divides the City into eight maintenance districts. There is a three-year program within each district with street reconstruction in the first year, asphalt patching and thin overlays in the second and slurry seal in the third year. The number of streets in a district reconstructed in a given year is solely contingent upon the amount of funds available. Note: The planned year of rehabilitation for each street is subject to change due to conflicting construction work, budgetary constraints, and unforeseen circumstances. Information on the location of street projects currently under construction, recently awarded construction projects that will start in the near future, and projects being advertised for bid may be obtained by calling the Engineering Department at (714) 738-6845. |
