4:00 p.m. City Hall Redevelopment Conference Room - 3rd Floor 303 W. Commonwealth Avenue ROLL CALL Present: Scott Dowds, Mike Hurst, Walt Johnson, Kim Pouch, Mike Ritto, Brian Williams Absent: Ron Beeler, Rick Crane, Jane Reifer, Steve Rose, Robert Zerrenner Staff: Terry Galvin CALLED TO ORDER AT 4:15 P.M. BY WALT JOHNSON IN RON BEELER'S ABSENCE. I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 16, 2000, AND MARCH 15, 2001, MEETINGS Motion made and seconded to approve the Minutes. Motion passed unanimously. II. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN AND VICE CHAIRMAN Chairman - Ron Beeler by unanimous vote. Vice Chairman - Walt Johnson by unanimous vote. III. BUDGET AND CIP REVIEW Reviewed various projects while going through the CIP: Santa Fe project, pedestrian improvements in Transportation Center, rail museum, Railroad Days, Harbor lighting. Scott Dowds moved, while Brian Williams seconded, to receive proposed projects for the CIP. The Committee will review projects individually and relay any comments or questions to Terry Galvin. IV. PARKING EXPANSION STUDY Terry Galvin explained the delay in selecting the consultant. The item will go back to Council on June 5. Mr. McTaggert has not submitted any information to date, but has until May 21 to do so. V. SHEEP UPDATE Scott Dowds explained the status and process of the sheep promotion (Bastanchury Days). So far, 28 have been reserved, with a few more expected. The City has to date not been a part of the program; however, the City is the beneficiary of the publicity. At the end of the event, they will be auctioned off. VI. OTHER BUSINESS Terry Galvin provided a status of the Morgan project & acquisition of the Lawson property and explained that this item will go back to Council on June 5. Mike Hurst brought to the Committee's attention the pending CUP request before the Planning Commission on May 23. The request is for a halfway house on Commonwealth, east of Lemon. He expressed concern for proliferation of social services agencies in the downtown area. He also encouraged members of the Committee, the Chamber, and the Downtown Business Association to attend and protest. Moved by Scott Dowds, seconded by Brian Williams, that the proposed use is not compatible with the downtown area based on the number of similar uses already in the area, and the negative impacts to the projects being supported by the Redevelopment Agency. VII. ADJOURN Meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m. |
