Commonwealth Avenue ROLL CALL Present: Ron Beeler, Walt Johnson, Scott Dowds, Jane Reifer Absent: Rick Crane, Steve Rose, Mike Ritto, Brian Williams Guest: Kay Demett Staff Present: Terry Galvin CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 4:10 P.M. by Chairman Pro-Tem Walt Johnson. I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MEETING ON NOVEMBER 16, 2000 No changes, no vote because no quorum. II. MORGAN & BRE HOUSING PROJECTS Terry Galvin explained status of projects. BRE is in the process of demolishing the buildings; Morgan is dealing with a holdout property owner. III. DOWNTOWN INFORMATION/PUBLICITY OPTIONS Terry Galvin stated that three different people have discussed the possibility of creating some type of information/public relations program to make it easier for people coming to Fullerton to know where things are, what events are coming up, etc. The PAC 2 could be part of this effort as it relates to the Downtown and Transportation Center. It will be important to coordinate the efforts of the interested groups to avoid duplication and cover all of the aspects of such a program. The members are requested to consider this for future discussion. Scott Dowds sees this as an 18 month effort with strong involvement by the Chamber of Commerce looking on a city-wide basis. As envisioned by the D.B.A., the downtown and Transportation Center would be a separate focus for more specific infor- mation and visitor assistance. The committee agreed that this could be a subject for future consideration. IV. PARKING EXPANSION STUDY Terry Galvin explained the council direction to have an RFP prepared to examine potential increased parking opportunities in the various blocks in the downtown and Transportation Center. Scott Dowds brought up the possibility of charging parking at the Transportation Center. Request that this be looked at as part of the parking study. V. PROJECT STATUS Terry Galvin reviewed the proposed pedestrian improvements at the Transportation Center. Jane Reifer asked about an additional paved area in Santa Fe and additional handicap ramps to get from the OCTA Plaza to the depot. Terry Galvin responded that the Engineering Department does not want to add more crossing areas in such a congested area. There already is a path for handicapped persons to travel to the depot. VI. OTHER BUSINESS Walt Johnson expressed concern about the amount of traffic disruption on Commonwealth and Harbor at Chapman during weekdays. VII. ADJOURN Meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m. |
