Fire Sprinkler System Plan Check Requirements
PERMIT PROCESSThis policy shall be enforced to comply with the 1998 California Builders Code. Prior to issuance of any automatic fire sprinkler system in addition to sprinkler plans, The applicant shall submit complete plans and structural analysis of supporting elements in compliance with Section 2336 and Chapter 16 of the CBC and NFPA 13 standards. The applicant shall provide structural calculations to investigate adequacy of sprinkler piping support means and devices to structural framing elements and proper connections. Use special load on Table No. 16-B, Item No. 12 (250 lbs. plus weight of water-filled pipe), and Table No. 16-O for seismic, lateral or sideway connection to comply with Section 1634. The engineer of record shall do the analysis. If design analysis is done by an engineer other than the engineer of record, then the engineer of record shall review and stamp the plans for approval. Plan shall be submitted at the same time as automatic sprinkler plans are submitted for Fire Department review. ADDITION AND ALTERATIONWhen automatic sprinklers are added or altered in an existing sprinklered building, the above requirement shall apply to the effected areas only. INSPECTION PROCESSThe permit applicant shall request for structural support connection inspection prior to covering connections. All work related to structural support and connection shall remain accessible and exposed for inspection purposes until approved by the Building Official.
