APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION: By Member Leigh Jacobs, seconded by Member Jeff Harris to accept the minutes of the August 22, 2002 meeting. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS NOISE AND OPERATIONS REPORT/AIRPORT INCIDENTS Operations were reported by Manager Propst as follows: - August 2001 - 9,171 operations
- August 2002 - 9,234 operations
- July 2001 - August 2002 (12 consecutive months) - 97,541
Manager Propst reported on 11 noise complaints for August 9, 2002 through September 20, 2002 in comparison to 6 noise complaints last year during this same period. AIRPORT MONTHLY SAFETY INSPECTION Member Jeff Harris conducted the monthly safety inspection for September 2002. Manager Propst discussed the problem of gophers on the airfield. He explained that he will be addressing safety and maintenance issues on the airport with the new Airport Operations Lead Worker. FAPA REPORT Nothing to report. MANAGER'S AIRPORT UPDATE Manager Propst reported that he hired Leonard Jimenez for the Airport Operations Lead Worker position. Leonard will begin working in about two weeks. Manager Propst said that sometime in October 2002, he will hire another full-time Airport Service Worker. Airport Day is next Saturday. Manager Propst reported that he was elected to be chairperson of the Aviation Technical Advisory Committee, which advises the Aviation Task Force of the Southern California Association of Governments.
NEW BUSINESS There was no new business to discuss. COMMENTS FROM THE COMMITTEE In response to a committee member's inquiry, Manager Propst discussed the grant for the northwest ramp area, stating that the paperwork is being processed. He projected that the design work should be completed in June 2003 and construction may begin in the summer of 2003. In response to a committee member's inquiry, Manager Propst talked about the new development on the northwest corner, where a construction company is building storage units. He instructed Buena Park staff to ensure that the proper permits are obtained if cranes will be used in this project. In response to a committee member's inquiry, Manager Propst detailed the events and participants for Airport Day. He explained that the goal of the event is to bring in local constituents to become more familiar with airport operations. He went on to discuss the advertising for the event, which included post cards sent to local residents and a color ad in the PennySaver. Member Harris reported that he received one of the post cards. Manager Propst projects that over 2,000 people will attend. COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC There were no comments from the public.
