APPROVAL OF MINUTES

MOTION: By Bob Barclay, seconded by Leigh Jacobs, to approve the minutes of the May 24, 2001 meeting. Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS

  1. NOISE AND OPERATIONS REPORT/AIRPORT INCIDENTS
    - May/June 2001
    - Public Comments on Individual Complaints

Rod reviewed two noise complaints received in May and one noise complaint received in June. Rod introduced Dave Des Armier who is the Tower Manager now that Bill White has retired.

Rod discussed the helicopter routes and altitudes and how they fly to the right of centerline of the freeway and to the right of the centerline on Dale Avenue on departure. The callers want the helicopters to fly directly over Dale Avenue and not over the homes beside Dale. Leigh Jacobs suggested placing a notice on the ATIS about the helicopter departures. Dave said each Air Traffic Controller is trained to remind the helicopter pilots to stay as high as possible.

Rod reviewed two incident reports which occurred on the same date, Saturday, May 29, 2001. On one, the main landing gear collapsed while landing, destroying one taxiway light. The second incident was a plane from Ray's Flying Club with brake failure resulting in damage to one taxiway light.

  2. AIRPORT MONTHLY SAFETY INSPECTION
The monthly safety inspection was conducted by Ron Reed.
  3. FAPA REPORT
The next FAPA meeting is set for July 10 at 6:00 p.m.
  4. MANAGER'S AIRPORT UPDATE
    May Airport operations were 8,506.

Leigh Jacobs asked about the KFI resolution. Rod said the resolution was mailed to KFI, the Airport Land Use Commission (ALUC) for Orange County, and others. The ALUC discussed this last week and they will send a letter to the KFI station agreeing with adding the strobe lights.

Rod reported the South Ramp Project is going to be rebid for the second time. Construction should begin in August, 2001.

The Airport Master Plan update study project is in the independent estimate stage. Rod has asked an independent engineering firm to estimate the project and the negotiations for price will follow. Rod reviewed the anticipated scope of work for the updated Airport Master Plan which will include an economic impact evaluation.

The security camera images will be accessible from the Internet. The DSL line has been installed at the Airport and the vendor will be in on Monday to finalize the software installation.
