Fullerton, CA - Few things in life are as important as our eyesight.  The ability to see a child's smile, to experience the many hues of a summer sunset, or enjoy a good book are among our greatest treasures.

So, when we begin to have difficulty seeing or our eyesight begins to fade, we perceive it not only as the loss of a vital bodily function, but as a threat to our quality of life.

To help people better understand the ramifications of fading vision and care for those going through it, the Fullerton Community Center will host two progams presented by the Braille Institute.

The first, "Understanding Vision Loss," which begins at 9 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, will introduce terminology related to four basic eye conditions that can lead to vision loss and non-medical signs and symptoms of vision loss, as well as information about the diverse services offered by the Institute.

The second, a special free four-week personal management training workshop, "Solutions in Sight," will teach the visually impaired and those caring for them, new techniques in personal management, including closet, drawer and kitchen organization; grooming; money identification; shopping; orientation and mobility; and handwriting.  This four-week workshop starts Tuesday, April 23, from 9 to 11 a.m.

Preregister to attend either or both the seminar and the workshop series by calling the Fullerton Community Center at (714) 738-6305. The Fullerton Community Center is located at 340 W. Commonwealth Ave., west of Harbor Boulevard, in Amerige Park.

The Braille Institute is a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to eliminate blindness and severe sight loss as a barrier to the fulfillment of life.”

Persons requiring special accommodations are asked to notify the Community Center prior to April 16.
