The Fullerton City Council recently approved a contract with Graffiti Protective Coatings, Inc. (GPC) of Los Angeles for City-wide graffiti removal services. The new service will start on October 1, 2012. GPC is a nation-wide firm providing innovative graffiti abatement services to more than 100 cities, including a web-based system where City staff and residents can enter and track their requests. GPC employees use mobile technology to receive and update work orders, as well as take “before” and “after” photographs of each removal site, which can be posted on the request website. GPC’s trucks are stocked with 40 paint colors and its employees have extensive training in color matching techniques. Most graffiti will be removed within 24 hours.
The switch from in-house to contract graffiti removal will be seamless for residents. Citizens will still call the City’s 24-hour graffiti hotline at (714) 738-3108, where live representatives will take their information and enter removal requests. Residents can continue using the City’s dedicated graffiti email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) to send requests as well.
A few weeks after the October 1 start date, the City and GPC will launch a new mobile app for smart phones. The app will allow residents to take a photo of the graffiti and send the picture and location of the graffiti directly to GPC’s request system. After the graffiti has been removed, residents who provide an email address will receive a survey asking them to rate their satisfaction with GPC’s services. The app is free and will be made available on the City of Fullerton’s website.
