Providing citizens with an opportunity to invest in better health through awareness and preventive care will be the goal of a Community Health and Resource Fair Thursday, May 24, at the Fullerton Community Center.

The fair, themed "To Your Health," will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, and will offer a variety of free health screenings, including balance, blood pressure, body fat ratio, body mass index, chiropractic, dental, diabetes, and respiratory, along with stroke prevention and nutrition counseling.

In addition, a pharmacist will be on hand to conduct medication evaluations.  Persons wishing to take advantage of the evaluations are asked to bring either their actual prescription bottles or a complete list of their medications, including strengths and dosage information.

A blood chemistry test will also be available.  The fee will be $25, and will include a listing of 20 blood chemical levels, as well as a complete cholesterol level breakdown.  Persons wishing to take the test are advised to fast from midnight the night before the test to ensure accurate results.  Sips of water and medications are okay to take during that period.

For an additional $25 per test, from the same blood draw, PSA readings for men for prostate cancer and CA125 readings for women for ovarian cancer will also be offered.

In addition to the medical screenings, a variety of local resource agencies, services and businesses available to seniors and their families will be on hand.

Admission to the fair is free, and pre-registration is not required.

The event is being cosponsored by the Fullerton Parks and Recreation Department, the Orange County Health Care Agency and various medical groups and community organizations.

Sponsoring health insurance companies will also be available for fairgoers.

The Fullerton Community Center is temporarily located at St. Mary's Church, 400 W. Commonwealth Avenue, during construction of a new community center.

Further information about the health fair may be obtained by calling the center at (714) 738-6305.

Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the health fair are asked to notify the center staff prior to May 24.
