A 72-year-old Fullerton woman who had been missing since Tuesday (Jan. 31) morning has been found dead, the victim of an apparent suicide.
Hongyuan Li had been missing since yesterday (Jan 31) morning. This afternoon, police cancelled the search after Li was found dead several blocks away. It is an apparent suicide.
Fullerton Police Sgt. Andrew Goodrich said Li, who resided in the 600 block of W. Valencia Mesa Dr. with her family, was found dead several blocks away from the family home. She was found by gardeners working in an overgrown area, north of the North Justice Center in Fullerton. The gardeners notified the police.
Goodrich said the family last saw Li Tuesday morning. It is thought she left between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Li had been in the United States for about a month, and only spoke Mandarin Chinese. Her family told officers she had been depressed lately and took medication for depression.
The search involved several officers. Officers distributed flyers about the missing woman and canvassed the neighborhood. In addition, an Orange County Sheriff’s bloodhound and a helicopter were used in the search.
Detectives and the Orange County Coroner responded.
