Individuals looking for a meaningful way of giving something back to their community are invited to attend the Fullerton Museum Center’s “Docent Tea” Friday, Feb. 12.
The tea will begin at 10 a.m., and guests will be invited to take a private tour of the museum’s current exhibit, “Cine-Saurus: Dinosaurs in the Movies.” Current docents and museum staff members will also be on hand to answer questions about the docent program.
Light refreshments will be served.
The Fullerton Museum Center provides year-round fine art and educational exhibitions, as well as a variety of cultural and educational programs and activities for all ages.
Aimee Aul, museum education coordinator, said docents play a vital role in the museum’s mission: “They lead tours of exhibits for schoolchildren and other groups. They also assist with after-school art programs and some weekend and evening museum events.”
Docents, she continued, “should enjoy working with children, be enthusiastic about meeting new people and learning new things.”
Docents who complete one year of service to the museum can also volunteer to become “Ghost Guides” for the museum’s popular “Haunted Fullerton Walking Tours” given in the fall.
Aul said prospective docents need to have selected Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings available for volunteer work. After the initial training, docents can choose shifts that work around their own schedules, and there is no minimum service time required.
All docents receive free membership to the museum.
Persons interested in attending the tea and learning more about the docent program may make reservations by calling the Fullerton Museum Center Education Office at (714) 738-3136.
The Fullerton Museum Center is located at 301 N. Pomona Ave., east of Harbor Boulevard, in downtown Fullerton.
Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the tea are asked to notify the Museum staff when making reservations.
