Fullerton, CA – Local author and restaurateur, Michael S. Oates will be the featured speaker at the Fullerton Library Foundation's Author Luncheon on Saturday, August 23 at the Alta Vista County Club at 777 Alta Vista Street in Placentia. From 11:30 am to 1:30 p.m. guests will dine and hear from Oates who operates one of the most popular restaurant in Fullerton and has been recognized for his achievements in the industry by California State Senator Mimi Walters and U.S. Congressman Ed Royce.

The luncheon is sponsored by the Fullerton Public Library Foundation and all profits from the event will be used to benefit the Foundation’s support of the Fullerton Public Library.

Oates’ first novel, Wade in the Water, is a fascinating view of life in America in the 1880’s. It tells the story of the 1889 Johnstown, Pennsylvania flood, the fourth largest natural disaster in our nation’s history.

Born in Dallas, Texas, and moved to California in 1973, Oates graduated from the California State University in Fullerton in 1992 with a Masters degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Music. Over the past sixteen years, he has grown his southwestern style restaurant, Café Hidalgo, into a thriving fixture in his home town of Fullerton.

Fullerton Library Director Maureen Gebelein states "We are delighted to have Michael Oates come to our annual luncheon supporting the Fullerton Public Library. Not only will guests be able to find inspiration from hearing from our speaker but they’ll be able to witness one of Fullerton’s own success stories as well."

Reservations for the luncheon can be made at the Fullerton Library Foundation website at: Individual tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available. Deadline to reserve a seat for the luncheon is August 15.

“This event will most likely sell out so I would suggest that tickets be secured in advance,” added Gebelein. In addition to the Fullerton Library Foundation website, more information is available by calling (714) 738-3366.
