Fullerton, Ca - Someone once said there are as many fraud schemes, or scams, as there are grains of sand on the beach. In just the last three years, victims have lost more than $42 million to lottery scams, many of which originated in a foreign country. Older Americans are a prime target of these scammers, who prey on seniors, who are perceived to have time and money. As a result, it is absolutely essential today that senior citizens learn how to avoid becoming a victim. This is where the Fullerton Community Center is ready to help.

On Tuesday, March 18, the Fullerton Community Center will host a special seminar on mail and consumer fraud featuring, an inspector from the U.S. Postal Service, as guest speaker. The program will be held at 10 a.m. at the Fullerton Community Center, which is located at 340 W. Commonwealth Ave., west of Harbor Blvd., in Amerige Park.

The speaker will discuss the various methods of fraud, such as lottery and foreign lottery scams, charity and internet fraud, reshipping fraud, chain letters and other strategies. The program will also include a question-and-answer session. Informational materials will also be available to take home. Adult children of seniors are especially encouraged to attend and learn how to better protect their parents against crime.

The program is free, but reservations are requested and may be made by calling the center at (714) 738-6305. Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the program are asked to notify the center staff when making their reservations.

For information, contact Vickie Wiles at the Fullerton Community Center at (714) 738-3341.
