Fullerton Public Library’s Fullerton Reads celebration will go out with a bang! On October 28, TAIKOproject will wrap up October’s Fullerton Reads festivities with a talk and demonstration of the thunderous Japanese art form of taiko drumming. The program will take place in the library’s Community Room at 2:00 p.m.

“Taiko is beautiful to watch and amazing to hear. The drummers show the heartbeat of storytelling flowing through different cultures,” said Maureen Gebelein, Director of Fullerton Public Library. “This is another way for the library to share stories with our community.”

Now it its sixth year, Fullerton Reads aims to bring the city together by reading - and discussing - one book. This year’s selection is “Farewell to Manzanar” by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, an account of Japanese American internment during World War II.

This year, Fullerton Reads is also part of California Reads, a statewide reading and discussion program. Cal Humanities developed the program collaboratively with the California Center for the Book and the support of the California State Library.

Further information about the taiko program may be obtained by calling the Fullerton Public Library at (714) 738-6327.  Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the program are asked to notify the library staff prior to October 27.
