Public Comments None Introductions none Approval of Minutes Vice Chair Spencer made a MOTION to approve the minutes of the May 10, 2004, meeting. Member Miller seconded the MOTION. The MOTION was approved. Old Business Report of Banner Subcommittee: Member Smithling reported Coldwell Banker purchased 21 banners at a cost of $150 each, leaving 3 banners yet to be sold. Chair Dalton and PIO Palmer Mudrick commended Member Smithling for the outstanding job done. Centennial Birthday Party Chair Dalton asked if there would be a Centennial Booth at the July 14 event, with PIO Palmer Mudrick confirming there would. Member Ritto reminded all Committee Members they should be wearing a Centennial shirt at the event and if any member does not have one, they need to purchase one before July 14, 2004. Chair Dalton reported attempts to contact Collettes Catering have gone unanswered. Member Smithling reported Judy Lynns Bakery would provide a chocolate cake with a picture of George Fullerton. PIO Palmer Mudrick will contact Member Murphy to confirm Costcos donation of one marble, one white or one yellow cake with the City Seal and Centennial Logo. Joe Felz, Community Services Manager, confirmed 300 400 are expected, and added the Fullerton Museum Center will provide the paper goods. Member Smithling will contact MaryAnne Blane, daughter of Alice Chapman, to inquire if there is interest in participating. The Fullerton Senior Multi-Service Center has provided the names and addresses of 3 100+ residents. PIO Palmer Mudrick reported a letter would be drafted inviting these three. Chair Dalton reported he had been contacted by a CSUF graduate student and asked if he could be allowed to take a Group Photograph (as many Fullerton residents as possible). In speaking with Community Services Manager Felz, the thought was it could be done at the Centennial Birthday Concert. The program would be suspended for 5 10 minutes for this photograph to be taken, with the particulars worked out between the photographer and the Museum. Further discussion ensued with the Committee receptive to pursuing this opportunity. Member Lee asked if there would be someone there taking roving photographs with PIO Palmer Mudrick confirming that photographs will be taken. PIO Palmer Mudrick advised Chair Dalton that Mayor Clesceri will be participating in the birthday celebration and the Committee Members will be assisting with the cake cutting. Community Services Manager Felz advised members the concert would take place at the very large baseball/soccer field, with the stage at the far end of the field at the Sports Complex. Parking for the Committee Members cannot be reserved; however, as long as they are early, there should be more than enough parking available. Vice Chair Spencer advised the Committee Members the Fullerton Beautiful Fountain and Landscaping Dedication at the Police Department would be postponed until August. The fountain and landscaping will be ready by July 14th, but Fullerton Beautiful believes postponing the event will allow further discussion as to what type of function will take place i.e., a reception, dedication. Time Capsule Further discussion was tabled due to Member Bowens absence. Centennial Booth at Fullerton Market Chair Dalton opened the topic of a weekly Centennial Booth at the Fullerton Market and the consensus of the Committee Members was to only staff the booth on the first Thursday of the month due to the Mayor sharing the booth at the Meet the Mayor event. Member Heaton reported the Business Expo had a very small turnout and only sold two Centennial items. Chair Dalton asked for volunteers to staff the booth on July 1. Member Ritto will check with his daughter and Vice Chair Spencer will try. Member Miller asked what opportunities there are to sell the Centennial Commemorative items. The consensus of the Committee is to wait until after the Fourth of July event to further discuss other opportunities. Member Miller also suggested having two booths, one at each end. Community Services Manager Felz reminded the Committee Members that walking around trying to sell is not permitted and PIO Palmer Mudrick questioned cutting the inventory in half. The Committee Members agreed to only have one booth at the event. Centennial Monument Member Smithling suggested inviting an artist to come to a meeting with some rough drawings and hear what the Committee has in mind. Community Services Manager Felz shared with the Committee that there is a process to be followed on public art - one that allows open access for all to contribute. Member Heaton added there are several art groups in Fullerton and it needs to be opened as a competition, as well as speak to the City staff about the different sites and find out the priorities of the Public Art Council. PIO Palmer Mudrick advised if using the money the Committee raised, an art piece could be commissioned because it is not tax dollars; however, choice of the location may run into hurdles, needing approval/permits from various City departments. Member Ranii asked if the Public Art Council has locations selected for public art pieces, with Community Services Manager Felz answering there is a roster of locations, mainly for murals. Community Services Manager Felz cautioned the Committee about possible public relations problems if this process is not opened up to all. Chair Dalton thanked Community Services Manager Felz for the input and suggested a subcommittee be formed to work closely with the Public Art Council. Community Services Manager Felz will provide some guidelines for the Members to review, with Members Smithling, Ritto, Heaton, Chair Dalton and Vice Chair Spencer volunteering for the Subcommittee. The first meeting of the Subcommittee will be held on June 21, 2004, at 4 p.m. at the Museum Center. Chair Dalton requested an accounting of Centennial funds be available for the July 12, 2004, meeting. PIO Palmer Mudrick advised the Committee as of May 26, 2004, there was a balance of approximately $1,700. Centennial Ball Chair Dalton shared with the Committee that Fullerton Heritage, along with the Imperial Ballroom and the Historic Foundation, is in the planning stages for a Centennial Ball to be held in September, and he requested the use of the various group mailing lists so as to invite as many as possible. Also planned for the evening will be a silent auction, gaming tables, dinner, and formal ball with dance demonstrations, with the proceeds going to Save the Fox Foundation with a tentative date of September 11, 2004. Jane Reifer, of the Historic Theatre Foundation, has been contacted and is receptive to the project. Centennial Book Chair Dalton advised the Committee he had been contacted by an individual regarding writing a book about the City of Fullerton and requested permission to use the Centennial Logo. The individual has been advised the City already has Bob Ziebells book on Fullerton and that the Library is currently working on a pictorial history on the City of Fullerton. Chair Dalton questioned if there were enough consumers to warrant another book. Chair Dalton passed around a book done on Old Towne Orange for the Committees review and authored by the same individual. Chair Dalton asked Community Services Manager Felz to make contact with the individual to find out more details and report back at the next meeting. PIO Palmer Mudrick advised the Library is also currently updating it Ostrich Eggs for Breakfast childrens book and could possibly have a problem with another book.
Member Comments Member Ritto handed out the DBA newsletter, noting a CSUF article in which a study was conducted that found the one thing those surveyed really thought the City needed was some kind of monument on the north side of town. He suggested putting a miniature replica of the original bridge at the Berkeley and Harbor Blvd intersection. He said it would be a permanent structure defining the downtown area, and that it could be a Centennial project. Adjournment The regular meeting of the Incorporation Centennial Committee was adjourned at 5:22 p.m. The next meeting of the Incorporation Centennial Committee will be held on Monday, July 12, 2004, at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Conference Room.
