Approval of Minutes

Vice Chair Spencer made a MOTION to approve the minutes of the January 12, 2004, meeting, and Member Heaton seconded the motion. The motion was approved.

Old Business

  1. Report on Centennial Pin/Hat Sales:

Chair Dalton advised the committee the Centennial Pin/Hat sales totaled $380 at the State of the City event. PIO Palmer Mudrick advised the members a total of $2078has been raised to date with an outstanding balance of $4067 owed to the City. PIO Palmer Mudrick advised the individual pins are not selling well but within the next few weeks, the City Council Secretary will be purchasing a large quantity of the individual pins, 1000 - 1500, to restock the Council supply instead of placing an order. The City Council will be paying the full price of $4 each, which should help with the outstanding balance.

Chair Dalton mentioned that the CSUF vs. UCI Basketball game scheduled for Thursday, February 12, 2004, @ 7 p.m., might be a good opportunity to sell some Centennial items. Chair Dalton asked for volunteers. Committee Secretary Laura Hansen volunteered. Chair Dalton expressed concern with the late notification and lack of volunteers and questioned the Committee's participation in the event. Chair Dalton stated Ms. Hansen would be advised in the next day or so.

  2. Pin Sales by Business Community:

Member Ritto advised the members that the Downtown Business Association monthly mailer went out a few days ago. There are currently seven businesses that have agreed to sell the Centennial Pins/Boxed Sets on consignment, with all receiving a supply of the items. Sales figures will be reported at the next meeting. The Centennial Committee received permission from the 'Night in Fullerton' Committee to sell Centennial Items at the 40th Annual 'Night In Fullerton.' Fullerton Collaborative permission to sell the items at the 2nd Annual FACES of Fullerton event is pending.

  3. Report of Banner Subcommittee:

Members Ritto and Smithling advised the Sub-Committee met and determined 100 banners will be produced, and we need to sell 80 to break even. Banner pricing has been set at $200 each; sponsor strips will be available. To place an order, a 50% deposit is required, with installation scheduled for the end of March and removal scheduled for November 01, 2004. Member Smithling reported several businesses want specific locations guaranteed before ordering any banners. PIO Palmer Mudrick responded the City cannot play favorites although an attempt can be made for those purchasing multiple banners. The next meeting of the Banner Subcommittee will be Friday, February 13, 2004, @ 4 p.m., All Media (Mike Ritto's) offices, 124 W. Commonwealth Ave., Ste. P, Fullerton.

  4. Centennial Coins:

The Centennial Coins were discussed by the members with questions asked, such as is there a time frame for the production of the coins, and do we utilize the Centennial Banner profits to purchase the Centennial Coins? Members Ritto and Katsaros will follow up and report at the next meeting.

New Business

  1. Special Centennial Event:

Members next discussed sponsoring a special centennial event in conjunction with the 'Summer Concert Series'. Suggestions included a birthday celebration at the sports complex; inviting Willard Scott to honor those residents also celebrating their 100th birthday; and something in the Downtown Plaza. Cultural Events Coordinator Dannielle Mauk said the better venue, with space to accommodate a large crowd, would be the concert at the Sports Complex. Special press announcements could be written, as well as special announcements made during the 4th of July event and at a Council meeting. Members discussed parking concerns, and suggested using shuttles. The birthday cake design, size, etc. will be discussed further at the next meeting.

  2. T-Shirts and other Items:

T-shirt style, color, etc. will be discussed at the next meeting. Member Katsaros will contact several companies, obtaining styles, colors, prices. Vice Chair Spencer will contact Kay Miller, Economic Development Manager, as a T-shirt source. The members agreed, with further discussion tabled until the next meeting, to the idea of an 'Official Centennial' Certificate be presented to all sponsors of an 'Official Centennial' event.

Adjournment

The regular meeting of the Incorporation Centennial Committee was adjourned at 5:10 p.m.

The next meeting of the Incorporation Centennial Committee will be on Monday, March 08, 2004, at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Conference Room.
