PIO Palmer Mudrick introduced Laura Hansen, Clerical Assistant III, City Manager's Office, who will be recording, processing, and mailing of the meeting's minutes and agendas. Public Comments Fred Canfield reviewed with the committee the Fullerton Railroad Days events planned for 2004 in which the City's centennial observance could be incorporated. Old Business Report on Commemorative Centennial Pin - A sample design of the centennial pin was passed around to all committee members for review. PIO Palmer Mudrick reported that 5,000 of the Centennial Commemorative Pins have been ordered and the expected delivery is prior to the 'First Night' event, scheduled for New Year's Eve (Dec. 31). All of the pins will be a 'tie tack' backing Report on Availability of Downtown Banner Poles - PIO Palmer Mudrick reported two dates have been tentatively reserved for the use of the 'Downtown Banner Poles for centennial banners. February 15, 2004 = North Harbor Blvd. June 14, 2004 = South Harbor Blvd.
Discussion Vice Chair Spencer suggested that in lieu of the large cross-street banners, the Committee should go with smaller sized banners that could be placed on street lights located throughout the downtown area, with the possibility of year-round usage. After some discussion, the Committee agreed to pursue the smaller sized banners. PIO Palmer Mudrick inquired if the Committee wished to reserve either of the Harbor Blvd. cross-street banner poles, with the Committee agreeing to release only the February 2004 date. PIO Palmer Mudrick stated she would make the necessary notifications. New Business Creation of Centennial Calendar- Members discussed creation of a 'Master' Centennial Calendar, which will list the various events planned for 2004, and how each of them could incorporate celebrating the centennial. The Fullerton Arboretum and Friends of the Fullerton Arboretum, Fullerton Public Library, and Fullerton Chamber of Commerce provided handouts to all members detailing planned events. The members discussed the possibility of the multiple civic groups, organizations, and committees consider incorporating centennial celebrations with events already scheduled Chair Dalton requested each member consider incorporating the centennial theme into already scheduled events with follow up at the next meeting. A preliminary Centennial Calendar was discussed by months, with members listing planned events and how the Centennial can be incorporated. A draft of the proposed calendar will be distributed at the Committee's next meeting for consideration. Design for Centennial Banner- Member Ritto handed out several banner catalogs for the members to review, with discussion following regarding specifics, more than one design, logo(s), etc. The consensus of the members was to have a standardized logo which would be utilized with any media announcement/advertisement. Member Carlson reported on an offer by Century 21 Realty to donate 75 hats with the centennial logo. Members discussed several logo options, color, date availabilities, etc., and asked Member Carlson to contact the sponsor's vendor to determine what is available and what would require special handling and report at the next meeting. A suggestion was made to inquire with CSUF Art Department to see if they would be interested in the development of the 'Centennial' Logo. Member Katsaros will provide a report at the next meeting. Centennial Logo/Song/Colors Committee members discussed possibility of creating a centennial song, and it was suggested the music programs at the various colleges might wish to get involved. There was also discussion of a possible centennial logo to be placed on City letterhead, the centennial calendar and other items connected with the centennial. Chair Dalton suggested as a possible logo "100 Years of Community Pride." It was mentioned that the phrase sounded similar to one used by another community, and Member Heaton asked staff to do an Internet search and report back at the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned by Chair Dalton at 5:45 p.m. The next meeting is set for 4 p.m. Monday, December 08, 2003, in the Council Conference Room.
