Old Business

  1. Commemorative Centennial Pin

PIO Palmer Mudrick reported the Centennial Pins have been delivered and circulated an example among the members. Chair Dalton expressed thanks to PIO Palmer Mudrick and, as a thank you, each Committee member will receive a pin. The individual pin cost was 89 cents each and approximately $5 for the limited edition boxed sets.

PIO Palmer Mudrick relayed a proposal from the City Manager, who suggested obtaining quotes for a limited edition boxed set of three, with the enamel colors of red, blue, and white and selling for $15 for a boxed set. The City Manager would also be willing to advance the money for this project. From the same vendor, a quote of $2400 was obtained. The order had to be placed today to ensure delivery before First Night.

After some discussion, the Committee accepted the City Manager's offer of funds to purchase the initial run of 500 consecutively numbered Limited Edition Boxed Sets, and the prices of $4 per individual pin and $10 per boxed set have been set.

Cultural Event Specialist Dannielle Mauk advised the Committee would be provided with a 10 x 10 canopied booth, signage, including a 'table banner and Price List signs, and a heater for First Night. The banner/signs will say 'Fullerton Centennial Celebration.'

Centennial Pins will be available for sale at the Museum and local merchants after First Night. The question of providing the Centennial Pin in bulk for a discount to the various organizations arose, with more discussion scheduled for after First Night.

Cultural Event Specialist Mauk reported on the procedure utilized for setting up and taking down a First Night Booth, including providing a cash box with $200 start up money. Volunteers to work the booth are:

6 - 8 pm - Member Susan Katsaros and husband
8- 10 pm - Members Minard Duncan and Bill Klinghoffer
10 - 12 pm - Fullerton Heritage or Fullerton Beautiful

Harbor Blvd. will be closed to traffic from Commonwealth Ave. to Chapman Ave. and the 'Centennial' Booth will be located on east side of Harbor, north of Wilshire.

Names must be provided to Cultural Event Specialist Mauk as soon as possible. Members were also asked to inquire with their respective organizations for possible volunteers.

Committee members agreed to move Item 4 to Item 2.

  1. Centennial Hats

Member Carlson advised the Committee the 96 donated Centennial hats have been ordered with delivery expected on December 30th. The Centennial Hats will be tan in color with the City Seal on the front and the sponsor's name on the back. If the Committee chooses, more hats could be ordered at a cost of $8.95 each.

  1. Centennial Banners

PIO Palmer Mudrick advised the Committee the City does have an official City Flag, which is available, and the City Manager would advance the funds for a Centennial Banner. Following a discussion, the Committee agreed to purchase a table banner, background color similar to royal blue with lettering in white along with the City Seal.

Member Katsaros reported CSUF's senior graphic designer has volunteered to assist in the design for the Centennial Pole Banners in a nostalgic theme, utilizing historic photographs of Fullerton and contrasting them to the 'today' look of color photographs. What type of materials used (silkscreen vs. digital output), dimensions and overall size must be decided before beginning work on the design process. It will be more cost effective to have the banners all one size. The designer has suggested making the banner with several designs, and then adding a strip along the side or at the base of the banner saying who sponsored it. Chair Dalton commented that we are not going to design and make these banners prior to First Night, so let us make it our next project after First Night.

PIO Palmer Mudrick reminded the members it is the City Maintenance Department that will hang the banner. She said she would ask the Street Superintendent to provide the needed information, and will email that to Member Katsaros.

PIO Palmer Mudrick reminded the Committee the south Harbor Blvd cross street banner is still reserved for the Committee for June 2004, and although there is still time to finalize the Committee should start discussion of what type of banner is wanted for this location. Member Katsaros asked if the senior graphic designer should start on this project along with the others. After some discussion, The Committee said the offer is appreciated, but the Committee needs to see how the sale of Centennial items at First Night go before committing to another large expenditure.

Committee members agreed to move Item 5 to Item 3.

  1. Centennial Theme/Motto/Song/Colors

PIO Palmer Mudrick reported that an internet search was performed regarding copy- writing of centennial mottos, with the results showing no infringement of the Committee's selection of "Fullerton: 100 Years of Community Pride." PIO Palmer Mudrick also reported the City's Purchasing Manager would add the motto to all new orders for City letterhead stationary. The Redevelopment and Economic Development Department volunteered to design a special postage cancellation.

  1. Master Centennial Calendar

PIO Palmer Mudrick reminded the Committee Members this calendar will be an ongoing 'work in progress' and requested those Committee Member to obtain permission from the organization in order for an event to be included as an 'Official Centennial Event.' Event listings are to be sent to PIO Palmer Mudrick by December 18, 2004.

Due to the limited space on this master calendar, only the name and date of the event and the sponsor's name and contact telephone number will be listed. The Master Centennial Calendar will be available to hand out at First Night.

Member Katsaros reported Miss Fullerton would be available for any Centennial-related event throughout the year.

New Business

PIO Palmer Mudrick advised the Committee Members of Mayor Clesceri's interest in this Committee and has requested a verbal report be presented at the January 20, 2004, City Council Meeting.
